Cortina d’Ampezzo (BL), 5 February 2021 – As part of a wide-ranging collaboration, Canon is at the side of Fondazione Cortina 2021 as Digital Imaging Partner of the Alpine Ski World Championships in Cortina d’Ampezzo from 7 to 21 February 2021. Canon’s ecosystem of solutions and services dedicated to the world of photography and workspace will be available to all those who work within the event during the two weeks of races.
Cortina 2021 is an extraordinary edition, made possible by the great values that distinguish the world of sport and Fondazione Cortina 2021: respect, commitment and loyalty. These are the ingredients that have made it possible to create such a complex event during this challenging time in history. Italy has always been regarded as a protagonist of skiing, both for its many champions and for its splendid venues where important races are hosted.
In this 2021 edition of the World Ski Championships, technology and the virtual dimension are fundamental to bringing all aspects of the races to the general public. Through its technology of imaging products and services aiding the professional photographers in the field, Canon helps getting the great stories of the event told as they document the races and recount the emotions and passions of the athletes. It is a great responsibility to give voice to an event, also through images, and it represents a strong signal of trust.
In the media centre, located in the Rumerlo finish area, Canon will set up a Canon Professional Service area to offer assistance to all accredited photographers. The professionals present in Cortina will be able to count on the advice of dedicated technicians and specialized repairers to ensure the proper functioning of their equipment, thus having the guarantee of always working with tools in maximum condition. It will also be an opportunity to try out the latest Canon innovations including the recent flagship of the EOS-1DX Mark III brand and the innovations of the revolutionary Canon EOS R system, including the brand new EOS R5 and EOS R6, and RF lenses, which have redefined the boundaries of photography and video, expanding the possibilities for creativity.
In addition, Canon will provide the event offices and the Press Room with solutions for the smart management of printing, copying and scanning of documents and information. Among the models made available, the imageRUNNER ADVANCE product range, designed with sustainability in mind, stands out for its high standards of productivity, functionality and safety.
“In a period like the one we are experiencing, it could not make us prouder to see our technologies return to the field, in the hands of professional photographers and at the service of organizing a great event such as the World Ski Championships. The world of sport has always been fundamental to our Research and Development, as we aim to develop solutions able to meet the needs of photographers looking for speed, precision and resistance in extreme working conditions“, says Massimo Macarti, CEO of Canon Italy. “Technological innovation, sustainability and social responsibility are the values that guide all our choices and activities. Three principles that we share with Fondazione Cortina 2021, which through this sport event promotes the beauty of the area while respecting the environment”.
As part of the collaboration with Fondazione Cortina 2021, Canon also contributes with the exhibition of large-format images by photographer Alessandro Trovati – Canon Ambassador and Photo Manager of Cortina 2021 – part of the project “Sport in black and white”. For Alessandro Trovati every single movement, body posture or athletic gesture is the starting point of a story, the spark to set in motion his narrative force that finds its sublimation in black and white. In addition, the PentaPhoto agency, founded by Alessandro’s father – Armando Trovati – is the official photographic agency of the event, with Canon technology.
“Sport told through images has always been an enhancement of the emotions experienced on the playing field” – comments Valentina Comoretto, Chief of Media of Cortina 2021 “We are proud to have Canon at our side and to be able to offer a high quality service”.
