Products and sports gear offered by the World Championships partners along with memorabilia belonging to the Ambassadors Ghedina and Goggia and to some young athletes from Cortina are up for auction. About 11,000 euros have been raised so far through this initiative.
Cortina d’Ampezzo (BL), 9th April 2020 – The fundraising campaign launched by Fondazione Cortina 2021 to support the hospital of Belluno – AULSS 1 Dolomiti, which is on the frontline of the fight against Covid-19, has been really successful. For this reason, Fondazione Cortina 2021 and some local athletes have decided to keep supporting the main health-care facility in the Province of Belluno by holding a second charity auction with the aim to raise more funds for this untold challenge that Italy is facing.
This time the prizes are memorabilia belonging to young winter sports athletes from Cortina and to the Cortina 2021 Ambassadors and products and sports gear offered by Fondazione Cortina 2021 partners.
The items up for auction include an autographed race suit worn by the 26-year-old Mattia Gaspari last 1st March when he won the bronze medal in the Skeleton Mixed Team Competition at the BMW IBSF Bob and Skeleton World Championships in Altenberg (first World Championship medal for Italy in this discipline), and the autographed Level gloves worn by the 25-year-old Giulia Gaspari from Italy Snowboard team—two real goodies for the winter sports lovers. There are also the competition bib worn by Silvano Varettoni, former Italian skier and now sports commentator for Eurosport for the men’s speed disciplines, on the Streif slope in Kitzbühel and the suit worn by Anna Comarella, a promising young Italian cross-country skier, at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.
Cortina 2021 Ambassadors also take part in this initiative. Thanks to this auction it will be possible to win the Lange ski boots specifically designed for Kristian Ghedina, which the champion from Cortina wore during his last World Cup season, and the Dainese helmet signed by Sofia Goggia, which the Olympic champion from Bergamo wore on 19th January 2018 when she won the World Cup Downhill race on Olympia delle Tofane.
Consorzio di Tutela della DOC Prosecco, Official Cortina 2021 Partner, auctions the 3-litre Jeroboam bottles produced in limited edition for the World Cup Finals award ceremonies. Nordica puts up the Dobermann Spitfire 72 RB Cortina 2021 Limited Edition skis—they are unique skis, perfect for ‘carving on the slopes’. There are only 100 numbered pairs and it will be possible to win number 1 and help raise funds for a good cause.
The auction will take place from tomorrow, Friday 10th April, to Wednesday 22nd April and will be once again held on CharityStars—an Italian digital platform dedicated to raising funds through online auctions. This auction follows the one organised by Fondazione Cortina 2021 from 31st March to 9th April, which has so far raised about 11,000 euros for the hospital of Belluno – AULSS 1 Dolomiti.
The emergency caused by the coronavirus spread is not over yet, but Cortina 2021 keeps supporting the local area and communities, carrying a message of confidence in the future and promoting solidarity, cooperation and sporting initiatives for a good cause.
