Two races on the same day, just a few hours apart. The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships Cortina 2021 will open with the two super-G races, originally scheduled for Tuesday and moved to tomorrow – Thursday 11 February – due to bad weather.
The women’s race, which will start at 10.45 on the Olympia delle Tofane, will be opened by Marta Bassino who again preferred bib number 1. Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami, specialty leader in the World Cup, and one of the great favourites, chose first and decided to start with number 7. Bib number 5 and 9 for Corinne Suter and Federica Brignone, second and third in the specialty standing. Reigning champion Mikaela Shiffrin will have bib number 4.
At 13.00 the new Vertigine track will host the men’s super-G. Bib number 1 will be worn by Austrian Christian Walder, and number 3 by Mauro Caviezel, the great protagonist at the start of the season who had to stop due to injury and who will be back on the track tomorrow for the world championships. Number 5 for the current leader of the super-G ranking, Austrian Vincent Kriechmayr. Italy’s Dominik Paris, who won the title in the last edition at Åre (2019) will start with bib number 8.
