Cortina d’Ampezzo (BL), February 7, 2021 – Great International skiing is back in the spectacular setting of Cortina d’Ampezzo with the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships scheduled from today until February 21. For the occasion, on the day of the Opening Ceremony, the Ministry of Economic Development has issued a stamp, belonging to the thematic series “Sport”, dedicated to the World Championships. It will be distributed by Poste Italiane S.p.A. throughout the country through its network of Post Offices and ten Philatelic Venues.
Poste Italiane also prepared the temporary philatelic cancellation service linked to the issue, which took place today at the Cortina d’Ampezzo post office.
The stamp is printed by the State Mint and Printing institute, in rotogravure on white, neutral coated, self-adhesive, non-fluorescent paper, with a weight of 90 g/m2; support: white paper, single silicone Kraft paper of 80 g/m2; adhesive: water-based acrylic type, distributed in quantities of 20 g/m2 (dry); paper size: 40 x 30 mm; print format: 40 x 28 mm; tracing format: 46 x 37 mm; indentation: 11 performed with die-cutting; colours: five; circulation: five hundred thousand copies.
The design, created by cartoonist Fabio Abbati, depicts an athlete engaged in a downhill competition – considered the most prestigious discipline of alpine skiing. Behind him, a characteristic “gate” with the words “CORTINA D’AMPEZZO”. In the background the Tofane, the iconic mountain massif that overlooks the Queen of the Dolomites, while on the left the logo of Cortina 2021 is reproduced. The stamp is completed with the caption “CAMPIONATI DEL MONDO DI SCI ALPINO CORTINA 2021” and “ITALIA” and the tariff indication “B ZONA 1”. Sheet: forty-five specimens.
