The coin was presented today by the Italian State Mint and Printing Institute as part of the 2021 numismatic collection

Cortina d’Ampezzo (BL), 21 January 2021The celebratory coin of the Cortina 2021 Alpine World Ski Championships, due to be held 7 to 21 February, has arrived. It is a unique and precious object, issued by the Ministry of Economics and Finance and created by the Italian State Mint and Printing Institute (IPZS), to celebrate the Alpine World Ski Championships in the Queen of the Dolomites.

The coin, for sale in the online IPZS shop from Tuesday 26 January at 10.00, is part of the 2021 Numismatic Collection officially presented this morning, in digital format, from the spaces of the Mint Museum in Rome (www.ipzs.it). Made of silver and valued at 5 euros, the coin is intended as a collector’s object, and is certain to be coveted by ski enthusiasts and coin collectors alike.

One of the coin’s faces depicts a giant slalom skier against the backdrop of the Tofane, the imposing mountain massif overlooking the Ampezzo valley. The other side will feature the official logo of the World Championships, and a detail from the Dolomites inscribed with the year of issue, 2021, the value, 5 EUROS, and the inscription FIS ALPINE WORLD SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Gianpietro Ghedina, Mayor of Cortina d’Ampezzo, comments: “This celebratory coin of the Alpine World Ski Championships is a precious object, which not only adds prestige to the event, but also pays homage to the splendid location of Cortina d’Ampezzo.
