Works in progress to prepare the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships
A plan of new construction and renovation works, which create a solid legacy that will benefit the local community and the whole alpine system.
Renovated infrastructures, new slopes and facilities—in compliance with the international ski competition standards—will profit the public, the local community and the tourists.
The Government named two Commissioners for the creation of the sports facilities and infrastructures in general: Luigivalerio Sant’Andrea, officer at the Prime Minister’s Office, for the development of the intervention plan in Cortina d’Ampezzo, and Claudio Gemme, President of ANAS, for the development of the actions regarding an upgrade of the transport and road network, which constitute the extraordinary plan for the accessibility to Cortina d’Ampezzo during the 2021 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships.

AVALANCHE CONTROL SYSTEM
AVALANCHE CONTROL SYSTEM
The avalanche control system, which consists of 20 explosive bells containing hydrogen and oxygen, protects the whole ski slope from Pomedes to Ra Valles. It is one of the biggest avalanche control systems in Europe and was built by a company specialising in this field and given to the Municipality of Cortina d’Ampezzo by the Government Commissioner. The ski lift companies (ISTA and Tofana SRL) are entrusted with the activation of the system. The 20 bells are installed only in winter and removed in summer for maintenance, thus reducing the visual impact.
